Van Driver/ Loader

About the Role
We are currently seeking a reliable Van Driver and Loader to join the Waste team at the Shaftesbury Depot. This position involves driving a small vehicle and assisting in the collection and deliveries of bins across the local area.
You will work as part of a crew, providing an essential service to the community, while ensuring safety, efficiency, and customer care are always upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate refuse collection vehicles in compliance with road safety and council regulations
- Carry out routine vehicle checks and ensure the vehicle is clean and roadworthy
- Drive designated routes to collect domestic, commercial, and recycling waste
- Assist with loading duties when required, including lifting heavy bins and containers
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure routes are completed efficiently
- Deliver excellent customer service and always represent Dorset Council in a professional manner
Qualifications and Skills Essential:
- Full UK Driving Licence and comfortable in driving a van/transit
- Knowledge of the local area of North Dorset
- Be able to use google maps and a computer tablet.
- A good understanding of health and safety procedures
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions Desirable:
- Previous experience in waste management or a similar driving role
- Manual handling training
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary - Monday to Friday 37 hours a week (6am to 2pm)
