Purpose of the Role

We are seeking an experienced Housing Complaints Officer to provide temporary support to our Housing Service during a period of increased demand.

The successful candidate will support Service Managers by managing a caseload of housing complaints, undertaking detailed investigations, liaising with relevant teams, and producing well-reasoned responses that meet corporate standards and statutory deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and investigate Housing complaints from receipt through to resolution.
  • Gather information and evidence from relevant teams and systems.
  • Liaise with officers across Housing services including:
  • Homelessness
  • Housing Register and Allocations
  • Lettings
  • Temporary Accommodation
  • Draft clear, accurate and customer-focused complaint responses.
  • Ensure complaints are handled in line with corporate procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Support the service in meeting complaint handling timescales and performance standards.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience investigating and responding to housing complaints within a local authority, housing association, or other social housing organisation.
  • Strong investigation and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to draft detailed and sensitive responses.
  • Knowledge of housing services, particularly homelessness, allocations and lettings.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation and statutory homelessness duties.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience responding to Housing Ombudsman enquiries or complaints.
